ZZZZZZ....

In January Spencer became a Sunbeam. Which meant he graduated from snacks and toys to lessons and hard chairs. This was not an easy transition. During the first few weeks, he sobbed through all of Class Time and Sharing Time (even when the Primary Chorister offered to sing his favorite song: "ABC Spiderman").

After a few weeks, he began to do better in class and we were encouraged. But then the Primary Secretary off-handedly mentioned that he was sleeping during Sharing Time. Apparently, he would walk in, look sad, sit begrudgingly in his seat, and take a nap. Now, I served in Primary for four years, and I've seen kids hide under their chairs, hit others with their chairs, move their chairs around the room, and even get their heads stuck in the hole at the back of the chair; but I don't think I've ever had a child fall asleep in his chair. (I always thought this was something that was learned later in life and perfected on the stand.)

This last Sunday Spencer was invited to give a scripture.
I teach Sunday School, so I had Carter help him read the scripture. Apparently, it was enough to keep him awake through both hours. After Church Spencer gave me a glowing report: "Mom, I did great in church today! I didn't cry or fall asleep!"
.

If only we could all say the same...

Bowling

Every trip to the cabin must include a bowling excursion,
and this weekend was no exception.

Bowling is kind of a backwards sport.
For example: in most other instances in life, one strike is bad and three is terrible, i.e., baseball/drugs, etc.
But in bowling, one strike is good and three is great!
In fact, I think three consecutive strikes in bowling is a "turkey" which is another misused term.

Aren't they waiting so patiently?
(Sidebar: So, who is the dude in the jester hat?
Is he too cool to look at the camera?
And, does his mother know he dresses that way? Sheesh!)

Isn't she lovely?

Isn't she also lovely?

Spencer gave excellent ball advice.
His technique: ignore all weight and finger hole guidelines.
Just find the ugliest, pea-green colored ball
and the pins will fall down in terror!

Carter decided to follow this advice.

"YES!"

"Pass the Turkey, baby!"

Trains...yum

I walked downstairs to find the boys playing
with trains this morning.
.

The series of events was both predictable and darling.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves...

Snow

It snows here about once a year.

My kids are still somewhat mesmerized by it.
"What's this white stuff?"

"Look, I can walk ontop of it!"

"And run..."

Because it rained all day and didn't begin to snow until about 6pm, my backyard is a sheet of ice covered by a thin layer of snow.

Usually the snow melts within a few hours, but this time our lovely white glaze lasted for two days.
