Our delightful Chelsea is a natural nurturer. When we brought baby Spencer home from the hospital she was the first to hold, help and love him. When we discovered we were having another one, (due in 64 days) she was instantly the most excited and exclaimed, "Finally, a sister!" Well, as it turns out, it is not a sister. Consequently, she has found many other things to nurture. Our neighbors behind us have two Parakeets that my kids love to hold. Next door we have a new puppy Pug that is the cutest ever (no, we're not going to buy one.) And, then, contrary to all expectations, we purchased our own bird -- a spotted Cockatiel named Tiko -- in February of this year. Chelsea loves Tiko. In fact, she loves him so much that he has somehow become quite adept at flying with clipped wings. He flies so well that the other day he flew into the wall and broke his beak. He healed, we clipped, and now he flies no more. As Mom says, "He's ground bound." Whenever he tries to fly, he just drops to the ground. But, Chelsea loves him all the more, and between the Pug, the Parakeets, and Tiko, she may have found a temporary substitute for that elusive sister.
