Progressive Parenting

I have to thank my sister for these. She sent me this great email the other day and I found it all too true. Although, what does it mean for my fourth?

Pregnancy:
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes are your regular clothes.

Preparing for Labor:
1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your eighth month.

The Layette:
1st baby: You pre-wash and color coordinate all the baby's clothes.
2nd baby: You check to make sure clothes are clean and not too stained.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Diapering:
1st baby: You change their diaper every hour -- whether it is needed or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every two to three hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell, or you see it sagging to their knees.

Activities:
1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swim, and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

At Home:
1st baby: You spend a good deal of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday protecting the baby from your three year old.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Swallowing Coins (a favorite):
1st child: You rush to the ER and demand X-rays.
2nd child: You carefully watch for the coin to pass.
3rd child: You deduct the coin from his allowance.

Thanks for the laughs! It's amazing any children turn out other than the first. :-)

This is all too true. Considering the 'slippery slope' you can imagine my state of mind (and body) by number 8.

I had no idea I was so "progressive." Just wish that meant hip and stylish. Oh well.

Haha, I liked this entry. But what if we are already treating our child #1, like child #3? Does this mean we are bad parents or are we just super progressed?
